Celtic have been credited with interest in an 18-year-old Uruguayan midfielder.

The Hoops have their work cut out this summer, with the expectation that big names will move on from their time in Glasgow.

There are several areas of the pitch where reinforcements are needed and quality injected into a squad that will seemingly look a lot different next season.

The midfield is a key area in which change looks set to be required. Clubs are monitoring Arne Engels’ situation, and Reo Hatate was absent from the matchday squad in Saturday’s title win.

Player of the Year Benjamin Nygren will undoubtedly attract interest, having netted 21 goals and registering eight assists this season, with a Scottish Cup final still to go.

According to South American journalist Rodri Vázquez, Celtic are in pursuit of Agustín Dos Santos.

The midfielder is the son of 36-year-old Jonathan dos Santos, formerly of Barcelona and LA Galaxy.

Vázquez claims that the Hoops have already held talks with the teenager’s representatives over a move.

Agustín Dos Santos came up through the ranks of Club Nacional’s academy and made his way into the first team in 2025.

He played 149 minutes across four matches last year and has featured in 14 matches so far this season, registering one assist.

The 18-year-old signed a new three-year deal with his club in September 2024 until; he’s valued at around €450k.

Taking his contract into account, Celtic could sign him for a reasonable price, as long as Club Nacional are open to doing business.

Who oversees that recruitment long-term remains another matter.

With the club still expected to appoint a permanent manager in the coming weeks, major transfer decisions could yet hinge on who takes charge heading into next season.

For now, though, the focus remains on finishing the campaign properly.

Martin O’Neill takes his side to Hampden on Saturday, looking to round off the season with Scottish Cup success against Dunfermline.
