Celtic have reportedly slapped a new asking price on Maik Nawrocki as interest builds in Germany ahead of the summer window.
The Polish defender spent last season on loan at Hannover after falling completely out of the picture under Brendan Rodgers.
Nawrocki made 17 appearances in the 2. Bundesliga and managed six goal involvements from centre-back, an impressive return in a Hannover side that ultimately failed to secure promotion.
That has not ended their interest entirely.
Reports in Germany have suggested Hannover could yet return later in the window if circumstances change, although the Hoops’ valuation may complicate matters.
Via Fussball Transfers, Celtic are now looking for around €4 million to part ways with Nawrocki permanently. That figure is believed to be double the value of Hannover’s original purchase option.
It tells its own story about how Celtic view the situation.
The club may not see a long-term future for Nawrocki in Glasgow, but they are not in a position where they need to accept a cut-price exit either.
The 25-year-old still has two years left on his deal, and his season in Germany has done more for his reputation than his time in Glasgow ultimately did.
That is likely to strengthen Celtic’s hand during negotiations, particularly with clubs now keeping tabs on his situation following a solid campaign in Germany’s second tier.
Nawrocki never really got a consistent run at Celtic after arriving from Legia Warsaw in 2023. Injuries and selection decisions stalled any momentum he built, and once he dropped out of the side, he never properly worked his way back in.
His spell at Hannover at least put him back in the shop window.
Now attention turns to what comes next.
Whether Hannover revisit a deal later in the summer or another club steps forward, Nawrocki appears far more likely to leave permanently than return to challenge for a place at Celtic.
The next conversation will likely be between the player’s representatives and Celtic as they try to find the right exit for all parties.

Nawrocki was never given a fair chance at Celtic, like so many other players.
When he did play he did really well and it was recognized by the fans who wanted him out in the first team.
Bring him back.
