Celtic striker Johnny Kenny is attracting interest from the English Championship.
The 23-year-old joined Celtic from Shamrock Rovers in 2024 and has made 32 appearances for the club, scoring seven goals. While he remains part of Martin O’Neill’s squad for pre-season, fresh reports suggest his long-term future is far from settled.
Kenny spent the second half of last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers and made a real impact before injury brought his campaign to an early end.
He scored six goals in 14 appearances for the Trotters and looked to have found his feet in English football. That spell has clearly left an impression, with Bolton Wanderers now reportedly keen to bring him back on a permanent deal after securing promotion to the Championship.
Kenny returned to Celtic this summer as he continued his recovery and has been back involved with the first-team group during the club’s training camp in Portugal.
His position in the squad could yet depend on how the remainder of the transfer window unfolds.
The arrival of Colombian forward Camilo Duran adds another option in the attacking department, making regular minutes even harder to come by if Kenny stays at Celtic.
That does not automatically mean an exit is on the cards. Pre-season offers every player an opportunity to impress, and Kenny remains with the squad as preparations continue.
There has been no concrete bid from either Bolton or Millwall at this stage, but interest appears to be building.
For Celtic, there is no immediate rush to make a decision. Kenny is under the manager’s watch during pre-season, with another chance to stake his claim when the Hoops face Sporting CP on Tuesday.
Whether that proves enough to keep him at Celtic Park for the campaign ahead remains to be seen, but interest from the Championship is unlikely to disappear if clubs believe there is a deal to be done.
For now, Kenny’s focus will be on pre-season in Portugal, while Celtic assess their options and the transfer window continues to gather pace.
