The SFA have fined Celtic following the unsuccessful appeal against Auston Trusty’s red card.
Celtic challenged the dismissal shown to Auston Trusty during the loss with Hibernian, but the appeal was dismissed at a fast-track tribunal. As a result, the original sanction stands and the defender will now miss three Scottish Premiership matches.
In a statement, the Scottish FA confirmed: “Claim dismissed. Original sanction of a red card for sending off offence A2 – Violent Conduct is re-imposed with immediate effect. Payment of £650 appeal deposit to be made within 30 days.”
The suspension rules Trusty out of upcoming league fixtures against Rangers away, Aberdeen away and Motherwell at Celtic Park, a significant blow during a critical period of the season for Celtic.
Trusty will still be available for the Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox, as the ban applies only to league matches, but the failed appeal leaves Celtic short at the back and out of pocket as they continue a difficult run of games.
Martin O’Neill will now look to Benjamin Arthur or Dane Murray to step into the backline; both have been pretty much frozen out in recent weeks. Arthur played just over ten minutes at the weekend, replacing Yang after Celtic were reduced to ten men.
