Celtic’s Europa League campaign comes down to one final, defining night on Thursday. Beat FC Utrecht and the Hoops are through to the next round. Anything less leaves their fate in the hands of others.
A draw would mean relying on results elsewhere across the continent. Defeat would require something close to a miracle. There is no escaping the reality. This is knockout football, stripped of any safety net.
That alone would make it a tense occasion, but the wider context of our European season sharpens the edge further. It has been an unusual and often turbulent campaign, one that has seen three different managers take charge since the opening fixtures.
Brendan Rodgers began the journey. Martin O’Neill stepped in as the season threatened to drift, and then Wilfried Nancy took things on before Martin came back into the fold. Instability rarely brings success on this stage, and the Hoops early struggles reflected that.
Home opportunities slipped away. Momentum never truly arrived. For a spell, qualification felt out of reach.
Then came O’Neill’s intervention. A superb away win against Feyenoord, followed by a gritty draw in Italy against Bologna las week, hauled the club back into contention. Suddenly, qualification was back in their own hands.
With everything riding on this final fixture, fitness has become crucial. Celtic need as close to a full-strength squad as possible, and Wednesday morning delivered some encouraging news from Lennoxtown.
Training images revealed a double boost at left-back.
Kieran Tierney was pictured taking part after limping off at Tynecastle. O’Neill admitted after the 2–2 draw that the defender was sore and a doubt for Thursday. Those concerns appear to have eased. Tierney’s presence on the training pitch suggests he is firmly in the frame.

Alongside him was another welcome sight. Marcelo Sarrachi, sidelined for long spells this season, was also back involved and looked in good spirits, as per the SNS images. His Celtic loan spell has been stop-start, repeatedly disrupted by injury, but when available he has brought energy and balance down the left.
Having two fit left-backs at this stage could prove significant. Squad depth has been a recurring issue throughout this European run. Options matter when legs tire and margins narrow.

Now, everything points to Thursday night. Celtic versus Utrecht. Celtic Park under the lights. Qualification on the line.
Kick-off is at 8pm. Everything else can wait.
