Celtic FC Women’s midfielder Clare Goldie has suffered a devastating blow after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.

The club confirmed that the 20-year-old, who signed her first professional contract with Celtic in January 2024, will now undergo surgery before beginning a long rehabilitation programme. Her current deal runs until summer 2026.

Goldie has yet to make an appearance for the Hoops this season but featured in the UEFA Women’s Champions League during the previous campaign. The timing of the injury is a major setback for both the player and the club, with the young midfielder viewed as a promising talent for the future.

Everyone at Celtic will no doubt be rallying around Goldie as she begins the road to recovery.

Elena Sadiku’s Celtic currently sit second in the table.

ACL injuries can take 6–12 months to fully heal, meaning her season is likely over before it began.

It’s the same injury that’s keeping Jota on the sidelines.

The superstar from Portugal was forced off at Tannadice last season, with an injury that turned out to be an ACL. He won’t feature for Celtic until well into the New Year.

It’s a massive injury, one that does seem to be getting more common in football as time goes on.
