CELTIC scored a massive own goal this afternoon when they announced they would be charging for the Europa League game next Thursday which will see a reopening of the stadium to all.

We have suffered through testing times and backed the club when they needed us most. It’s regrettable the club have put ONE match payday ahead of what will be an emotional return for supporters.

When we got the news the stadium would be opening for a potential full house – we were obviously delighted and really thought the club would continue that feel good moment by telling season ticket holders to put their wallets away this one time and thank them in the best way possible.

Instead, they have put a price tag on tickets (£19 Adult, £13 concession £7kids), admittedly lower than they would have charged in normal times, but it’s still an absolute brass neck.

Now, I no for a fact I’ll be angering some Celtic supporters who have an issue with anyone coming at the club. We’re not asking to get into all European games for nothing, we’re ready to put our hard earned cash in again BUT how great would it have been if the club put the supporters before just this one payday?

The Hoops could have AZ Alkmaar in the next round of the competition if they can negotiate a victory against Jablonec over two legs. That’s when the club should have cashed in.

I’m a pragmatic person and realise Celtic is a business, but that business does not exist without the sacrifices the supporters make on a daily, monthly and yearly basis to follow the club.

We spoke to Celtic about the situation today, the club believe bringing the price down as low as possible is a happy medium between what they would usually charge and what they’re asking for this time.

There’s not really a recent comparative for Europa League games in terms of ticket pricing. As a gauge you could take the second round Champions League qualifier back in the 19/20 as a relative comparison. The club charged £23 for an adult season ticket holder to attend the game vs Nomme Kalju.

Dom McKay could have started his Celtic reign properly with opening the doors to Celtic Park and showing people he was something very different from Peter Lawwell. We’re disappointed the new CEO has taken this course.

Celtic fans will of course cough up to get back into Celtic Park but with a protest against the board looming on Sunday, the club have readily handed protestors another stick to beat them with.

  1. Some very good points here and I can see the reasoning behind your opinion.
However I think it is a balance and though I genuinely oppose the Board on several issues I think that they are entitled to charge a reasonable and fair price for the upcoming fixture. Yes we were founded on charity but we have to pay our way both in football and society, it’s business and it’s a fact of life.
The fans will have many opportunities to chastise the Board in the near future if it goes pear-shaped. For now we have to support Ange and the Bhoys.

    • Fair points-no one wants to have to pay extra and we got nothing in exchange for last years ST but we have to put that in the past & move on.
If you think we are exploited by our board-and we are- then look how gullible Sevco fans are. Had to pay extra to see friendlies v Brighton & Real Madrid Reserves-not included with their ST

  2. Always disappointed when Edwards isn’t playing . He is liable to do something special, but unfortunately over the last year or so that has come scarcer and scarcer . We are getting closer to the team we are likely to have for main part of season . 5 first teamer players is an impressive start .

  3. I don’t understand why anyone is surprised by the actions of the Celtic Board. They only exist to make money for big share holders. They absolutely despise the supporter and would machine gun the lot on match day after getting your season book money. Last season was so bad because there was no match day protests so they did nothing. They don’t care about winning titles, qualifying for Europe they exist to screw every single penny out of gullible supporters. In short they are filthy, vermin Tory scum. They should be dragged and beaten from Celtic Park. They are the main reason Celtic are a club like every other.

  4. I see eddy is on the bench but he doesn’t care anyway not interested in celtic anymore he wants away so hopefully its the start of something good i just wish Griffiths was playing honest.

  5. Fergus needs to get rid of this lot! When didn’t notice the Tory chairman before, now we are! Tories are Tories, scum! Bankier probably has a photo of Thatcher in his drawer somewhere, when he’s sure the building is empty…

  6. We know who the board are and their contempt for the Celtic support. Here is a possible solution. Don’t go!. If no one showed up that is a protest that would make them sit up and take notice. Simply watch it on the telly. If you go and you give them money you support these Tory scumbags. For me the choice is easy. They can stick it up their Jablonec.

  7. Starfelt has not looked very good so far. He needs to up his game. Early days yet but not an impressive start. What’s happened to Turnbull? His worst games for Celtic have all been in the past ten days or so. Surely he doesn’t need a wee rest?
