Celtic Forced Into Season Ticket Update After Backlash

Celtic have issued a fresh update to supporters affected by the controversial rail seating reshuffle, with the club apologising for “confusion or lack of clarity” after backlash over plans to relocate The Bhoys beside the Green Brigade.

A supporter in the affected area posted the latest correspondence on Thursday evening [Celtic Research], adding another chapter to a row that has grown quickly since season ticket holders learned of the proposed changes.

The issue centres on Celtic’s plan to move The Bhoys ultra group from their current area in the Jock Stein Stand into the rail seating section, alongside the Green Brigade in the North Curve.

On paper, the move has been framed as one that could boost the atmosphere at Celtic Park. In practice, it has angered a number of existing season ticket holders who feared they were being forced out of an area they had occupied for years.

The latest email from Celtic appears to be an attempt to calm those concerns.

The club wrote: “Firstly, we want to apologise sincerely to you for any confusion or lack of clarity around this process and for any upset caused to you. Your support of the club is hugely important to us and never taken for granted.”

Celtic also stressed that supporters who wish to remain in the rail seating section will be able to do so, although seating arrangements will change.

That is the key line from the latest correspondence. Many supporters had been left with the impression that the relocation of The Bhoys would mean existing fans being moved out of the rail seating section altogether.

The club has now moved to clarify that position, writing that affected fans will “REMAIN within the Rail Seating section” if they wish.

Celtic’s explanation for the relocation remains centred on safety.

The club said the decision was “very much based on safety reasons” and pointed to the issue of large groups standing and moving in unison. The email stated that, when considered in a wider sense, the move would provide “additional levels of safety” for both supporters moving and those remaining in the South West Corner.

The club also acknowledged the atmosphere argument, noting that supporter groups recognise the move can be “an important factor in improving matchday atmosphere and experience within Celtic Park.”

However, Celtic admitted the timing of the decision had created problems.

The email stated that the relocation decision was taken “very recently” before the season ticket launch, meaning the club did not have time for further consultation before the renewal process began.

That admission will likely be seized upon by fans who believe the whole situation has been handled poorly.

There are few Celtic supporters who would argue against making Celtic Park louder, more vibrant and more intimidating for visiting teams. The issue has always been how the club has gone about it.

This latest update is more conciliatory than the initial communication, but it also confirms that supporters were right to feel the process had moved quickly and without proper discussion.

Celtic are now trying to reassure fans that they will not lose their place in the rail seating section unless they want to move. The club has asked affected supporters to contact railseating@celticfc.co.uk so they can work through individual options.
