Celtic have been trying for years to get a colt team into the lower leagues in Scotland but it has always been rebuffed.

Last night, Mail Sport report the club were given new hope to finally realise that dream which would transform their youth system.

Right now, the club have their youngsters sitting idle, playing the odd bounce game or Glasgow cup tie. If they can’t find a loan move for them and they’re not in the first team, it’s a hard place to be.

Just training constantly won’t make you a better player.

If the bhoys can get the green light, they would be able to field a whole team of youngsters in the lower leagues, giving them vital experience.

The report claims both Glasgow clubs are willing to sweeten the pot with cash incentives for the league if they allow colts into the system.

Clubs voted against a Rangers led proposal last summer, but they’ve now been invited to submit a new proposal. It would have to be voted through by clubs.

  1. I would prefer that questions are asked about our pathetic record of bringing through youngsters.
Mikey Johnston the only decent prospect in last few years and even then you would have to be pretty optimistic to see him as a future first team player. Wee Dembele looks as if he’s gone backwards in our system which just about says it all
