Celtic’s rivals today released their manager Giovanni van Bronkhorst.

The Dutchman could no longer hold onto his job after Celtic solidified a nine point lead at the top of the SPFL table before the World Cup break.

Scottish football has been reacting to the news throughout the day on social media. Celtic fans gloating Ange had dispensed of Gio and will now face his THIRD Ibrox boss in just 18 months when the football restarts in December.

GIO AT CELTIC PARK

We had to double take this evening when we saw an official Celtic account posting up what looks like harmless advertising for a Christmas plush.

The tagline ‘Here today, GONK tomorrow’ displaying a Christmas gonk on the tree is very cheeky and clever marketing from the Celtic store. The tag clearly aimed at the departure of Gio from the Ibrox hot seat.

The Glasgow rivalry can be intense, but it can also be hilariously petty and passive-aggressive. We saw that when Rangers managed to win the COVID league title – they used it to have a go at Celtic da’s that had been clearly upsetting them for years with the ‘Can you see us now’ tagline.

This is as subtle as it gets, but we have no doubt someone sat at their desk today proud of themselves for that play on words.

  1. Maybe we just need to stay focussed on US!
God knows the SFA/SPFL will be holding emergency meetings to see how they can help turn around the poor fortunes of this new club!
Oh wait, they already have Video Assisting Rangers, VAR for short.
    Let’s keep the focus!
