CELTIC will be able to call upon TWO first team players in this years Glasgow Cup it has been announced and confirmed by the Evening Times. The old trophy which has been going since 1887 has been competed for by the youth sides in recent times.

It has provided some valuable competition for the Celtic developmental side. However, the youngsters will now have a bit of help with this new wild card rule. This isn’t mandatory and Celtic can opt to play their youngsters regardless but given the rest in the tournament will be allowed to do the same it could be seen as a great opportunity to mix youth and experience.

Celtic would more than likely use this to give some game time to returning stars or first team players in need of minutes for whatever reason.

The Bhoys currently hold the trophy after beating the Ibrox club in a pulsating final. Celtic ran out 3-2 winners with a late goal from Robbie Deas.

The final will take place April next year with the clubs all paying each other twice in the group stage. The Bhoys kick off the tournament against Clyde at Broadwood on a Tuesday evening.
