CELTIC has been handed a boost as they follow up on potential defensive targets for the summer window with Champions League qualifiers looming not long after this season ends.
There might not be a manager but there’s a recruitment team in place who will not be allowed to sit on their hands waiting for a new commander in chief.
One player the club has been linked with in recent months is Chelsea defender Tomas Kalas who is currently on-loan at Bristol City.
City is keen to keep hold of the defender past the summer with Kalas having no chance of ever becoming a first team member of the Stamford Bridge squad having only played a handful of times in his nine years in London. Brought in as a hopeful young player, the defender has been shipped out on loan six times to clubs across Europe.
Kalas, 25, has been a victim of Chelsea stockpiling young stars over the years but still has a lot of football left ahead of him in his career. The player is a Czech international in spite of his club situation has 18 caps to date.
It was thought Bristol City had first option on signing the player after his loan spell has ended but it has been revealed there is no such clause in his loan contract which is a major boost to Celtic.
CEO of Bristol City confirmed this was the case to Bristol Live: “I said before that we have an option on Dasilva. We don’t have that on Kalas. It wasn’t part of the availability. He’s done so well for us.
“We have ongoing discussions with Chelsea and he will come into the discussions.”
Boyata was in the same boat when he signed for Celtic from Man City four years ago, brought in as a youngster and languished in the reserves and loans until the bhoys signed him.
