Celtic’s move for Haissem Hassan could have a knock-on effect elsewhere in the transfer market as several clubs continue to shuffle their options out wide.
The Hoops are closing in on a move for the Real Oviedo winger, although an agreement between the clubs has still not been officially completed.
Marseille have also been linked with Hassan, but reports in France now suggest the Ligue 1 side are looking at another option.
Get French Football News have reported that Marseille are showing interest in free agent Krépin Diatta, who left Monaco at the end of June.
If Marseille do move for Diatta instead, it could reduce the competition facing Celtic for Hassan and make the path towards a deal that little bit clearer.
There could also be another knock-on effect further down the line.
The Daily Express have linked Marseille winger Igor Paixao with Leeds United and suggested that developments around Marseille’s wide options could make a deal easier for the English side.
That creates an interesting chain.
There is nothing to suggest Celtic are directly involved in any talks over Paixao, while Marseille’s reported interest in Diatta does not mean they have completely dropped Hassan.
The winger is still with the Real Oviedo squad at present, and until a final agreement is in place, he remains their player.
If Celtic can complete the move, though, it could help set off a wider chain of transfer movement involving Marseille and Leeds.
