Rumours around a move for winger Sead Haksabanovic appear to be getting ever stronger with Rubin Kazan chief now handing a transfer boost to the Scottish Champions.

Presently Rubin Kazan find themselves in financial difficult and moving on the 23-year old Montenegrin could relieve some of their financial worries.

Although Haksabanovic signed a five-year deal with the Russian side only just last year, a lot has happened since then.

With Russian clubs being sanctioned after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it gave Haksabanovic the chance to return to Sweden on loan with DjurgÃ¥rdens IF.

It is thought that he is now desperate to leave the club and along with the financial constraints which Kazan face it is likely that he will depart the club as it would suit both parties involved.

He fits the profile which Ange Postecoglou has been speaking about recently when discussing Celtic’s future business with the Australian coach making it clear that he wants players who are flexible to play in different positions.

As well as Haksabanovic, Danish midfielder Oliver Abildgaard is also likely for the exit but won’t be sold on the cheap.

“We are in talks with both of them – of course, they both want to leave. But we aren’t letting them go for nothing because we want some money for them. We are waiting on bids,” said Rustem Saimanov (Rubin Kazan Chief Executive) speaking to RecordSport.

“Our situation is extremely worrying. Our budget has halved. I regard myself as being in a crisis management role. Our players all arrive for free now and no club has given us a single penny for transfers. We have been robbed by FIFA and UEFA. Everyone says that we have a big budget, but we also have big obligations. We have an academy which we spend millions of rubles on. Additionally, we have a women’s team playing in the major leagues. All this eats up money.

“And then we have obligations on loans that we don’t want, but you need to repay. We thought we could sell our best players for money which we didn’t get, the TV rights are down too. We budgeted for all this and got nothing.”

Saimanov will have had previous dealings with the Hoops over the signing of Swedish defender Carl Starfelt which will hopefully stand Celtic in good stead if they pursue a deal to sign Haksabanovic.

  1. He should drop that women’s football like a hot rock as soon as possible. Nothing but a drain on resources and getting absolutely nothing in return for it but 21st century wokeness.
