Traditional transfers these days are hard to come by.

More often than not, clubs are buying players, not to go straight into the first team but to sit on the sidelines or even be loaned out in the hope of putting them in the first team at some point.

With money so readily available down south, Leicester wouldn’t have even blinked as they signed Filip Benkovic for around £13million in the summer.

The defender was a long term Celtic target but the club could not afford the asking price.

Leicester bought the young Croatian but they had no intentions of playing him, just yet. This is when Celtic swooped in and completed the modern day loan transfer.

The bhoys got their man, even just for a season.

However, the way the season is unfolding and the way Filip is coming onto a game, come the end of the season it might be criminal not to ask Leicester the question ‘Do you really want him back?’.

Benkovic added a calmness to the Celtic defence yesterday and Boyata seemed to perform better unencumbered by having to babysit Jack Hendry.

If the Croatian stays fit he will be a massive player for Celtic this season.

After that, we go into the territory we have done in the past few season for the likes of Paddy Roberts and Odsonne Edouard – we’ll be screaming for an encore!

  1. Celtic have always had a good scouting network, but mostly for trainee level. Don’t really know why none of these sighings have not come the fore as of lately. Maybe they’re asking to much of their trainees. A slight breakdowm maybe. If so, then as mentioned earlier. Celtic need to look at what they require and how much it may cost. And how much they’re willing to invest, as its all about value and sell on in todays market. So build from the goalkeeper forwards.Like Fallon and Stein did.
