If you’re a regular listener to BBC Sportsound you’ll be used to the usual suspects talking up a certain club every single year.

When it comes to Neil McCann, you’re never going to hear anything in the way of positivity regarding the champions for the past nine years.

Instead, we’re treated to the problems at Celtic and how much Rangers* have improved.

McCann believes that no Fraser Forster next season or solid replacement will see the pendulum swing back to Celtic’s city rivals when it’s all said and done.

“I think Celtic have got problems in the goalkeeping position.” McCann told Sportsound as cited by SunSport.

“They were the best team last year and that was shown after the break. They were relentless in their quest for nine-in-a-row.

“But Forster was absolutely monumental in a lot of games last year, none more so than the League Cup Final which could have tipped the balance in Rangers’ favour.

“If they don’t replace him with a top-class keeper, I think it could just throw them off a little bit. But I think it’ll be tight this year.”

Celtic always appear to be in some sort of crisis when football isn’t being played. Remember, this was the team that absolutely smashed through teams up until March but when the shut down came and football was off the table, they became a much lesser team in the eyes of many pundits.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion but to continually play down a club who have won nine titles in a row and eleven trophies in a row in Scotland smacks of wishful thinking and poor punditry.

  1. Thing is….he’s not lying. Bain is a decent keeper, but he’s not Forster, We’d have lost the cup final had Bain or even Gordon, been in goal, and who knows what kind of lift that would have given Sevco for the second half of the season.
We don’t have major problems, but we have a pretty big issue to sort.
Bain will get you through the season, but he won’t win matches under the pressure we sustained at Hampden that day. They battered us, and Forster bailed us out.
If the team performs at the levels of the second half of the season, and the defence is solid, Bain will be fine. If we play at all like that cup final, we’ll be in trouble.
