His goal against Aberdeen might have been lucky, but the passion and drive Callum McGregor has as the captain of Celtic is there for all to see.

There was a question mark over Callum’s suitability as captain once Scott Brown moved on. Nobody was doubting his ability, but many fans were unconvinced he could fill Brown’s shoes.

They are two very different characters, but if you’re still claiming Callum isn’t captain material at Celtic – you’re sadly mistaken.

From the start of the season when he got all the players together in the centre circle and rallied the bhoys to now, he’s been brilliant.

Signing a new long term deal and pretty much committing his whole career to Celtic should be another reason why this bhoy is taken seriously as our leader on the field.

He continues to be a leader both on and off the pitch, flanked by Joe Hart.

The Scotland international exudes passion and has a renewed sense of purpose at the club, yes, he’s helped win four consecutive trebles, but he’s not lifted silverware or the league title as Celtic captain.

The clip from Sunday after Callum had scored the winning goal shows you everything you need to know.

Speaking after the Aberdeen game on Sunday, Ange Postecoglou heaped praise on his captain:

“Cal is massive for us. I thought he really drove the lads, just with the energy. That’s what we spoke about before the game, that’s what I emphasised. It’s easy for me to say it but somebody has to go out there and lead from the front. ” Ange told SunSport.

“I don’t know where he gets it from but he’s got bags of energy and when you see him running around you can’t help but be inspired that the rest of the guys will go out and do the same thing. He leads by example and he’s a man of action and words and I thought he was outstanding today.”
