Celtic have this afternoon hit out at the abuse defender Nir Bitton received after his red card in the 1-0 loss against Rangers last week.

As reported by the Daily Record, the club released a statement slamming the ‘vile’ abuse from the ‘faceless and nameless’ trolls that sent both he and his wife abuse on social media.

“Celtic has forwarded this vile content to the police and considers that everything should be done to identify those responsible and that all appropriate action should be taken.

“Nir Bitton and his family have our full support.

“Let us be very clear, those responsible for such vile comments do not represent Celtic or Celtic supporters.

“They are faceless and nameless.”

Although we as Celtic supporters would have been frustrated with Nir getting sent off in a crucial match against our city rivals, there is no place whatsoever for any type of abuse to be sent his way.

Saying things like ‘hung on the streets’ are too far in any walk of life, never mind over a game of football.

Social media is a huge problem in that sense, in where faceless trolls can hide their identity and send any sort of abuse peoples way, which is simply unacceptable.

Hopefully, these people are caught and rightly punished for their disgusting actions.
