Celtic Hit With Scottish Cup Stadium Ban

Celtic have been ordered to play their next home Scottish Cup game behind closed doors following disorder at Ibrox last season.

Rangers have been handed the same punishment, meaning both clubs will be without fans for their next home fixture in the competition.

STV journalist Raman Bhardwaj reported the decision on Friday.

That means Celtic will not only lose the gate receipts that usually come with a Scottish Cup home tie but will also have to pay £100,000 to their opponents to cover the visiting club’s lost ticket revenue.

The sanction is specifically linked to Celtic’s next home game in the Scottish Cup.

Should the Hoops initially be drawn away from Celtic Park, the stadium closure would therefore have to wait until their first home game in the Cup.

It is a major punishment for both Glasgow clubs following the scenes at Ibrox, with supporters now set to be locked out of a Scottish Cup fixture at both grounds.

For Celtic, the consequences will only become fully known once their next Scottish Cup draw is made and the Hoops discover which club will be affected by the closure.

What is already confirmed is that the next Scottish Cup match played at Celtic Park will take place without supporters in attendance, while the away side will receive £100,000 in compensation.
