FORMER CELTIC Player Roy Aitken has weighed into the Brendan Rodgers speculation by saying he would be very surprised if Brendan left the club at this stage.

The former Parkhead defender has spoken with the Celtic manager on several occasions and from what he’s heard, he doesn’t think Brendan would drop the club while there’s more to be done.

“Any time I’ve spoken to him, he thoroughly loves the job at the club.” Aitken told SunSport.

“He’s enjoying the adoration of the fans. He plays the Celtic way and he has brought in seven trophies — and counting.

“So I think he and Celtic are a good fit and I can see that continuing for the near future.

“I don’t see him going anywhere else at present.

“For me, everything that’s around him and Celtic just now is so positive that I don’t see him leaving. That’s the case because of what he has achieved, can achieve and will achieve.

“If you put it all together it’s the right place for him to be at the moment.

“The trophies are what he was brought to Celtic to do, but there’s a bigger picture if you look at Celtic as a whole.”

Brendan Rodgers has spent just over two and a half seasons at Celtic so far and has won everything domestically which has been put in front of him.

Europe has been the hard part to negotiate for the Celtic manager as he tries to go toe to toe with quality opposition.

Aitken alludes to the big picture and that means ten in a row. Celtic are going for eight at this point and Brendan’s contract would see him stay to try and achieve the record.

It would suck all the air out of the room if Brendan did go but there’s no indication that’s the case at this moment.

  1. Well said Roy, try telling that to ‘Icon’ Pat Bonner, who gets his media skills from Kris Boyd, Kris Commons, Andy Walker, Charlie Nicholas….you would think they NEVER wore the Hoops…for shame.
