Celtic were so close to taking it to matchday six against Real Betis for a Europa League place beyond Christmas, However, their late collapse against Leverkusen means they will be playing their next European tie in the Conference league.

So what does that mean?

The conference league is a new format and this is the first time third place Europa League teams have gotten any sort of consolation.

The Hoops will be up against any of the clubs who finish second in their Conference League group.

All these teams could change depending on results tonight and in two weeks time, however, here are the teams currently in second place in their Europa League groups as we write this:

Partizan, Roma, Jablonec, Slavia Praha, Bratislava, Tottenham and Quarabag.

We will keep you up to date with things as they go.

The game against Real Betis is a dead rubber and should be used for fringe players to get a run out in December. It’s disappointing the Hoops couldn’t do more in the competition but hopefully, this new side have learned some lessons.
