Celtic are set to be handed a boost when it comes to defensive options, as it was revealed that Norweigan Kristoffer Ajer is in contention for a return at Fir Park today.

As reported by the Glasgow Times, manager Neil Lennon revealed that Thursday came to quickly for Ajer to feature but he is expected to play some sort of part tomorrow as the hoops face off against Motherwell, in yet another must-win game.

“Thursday was too soon for him but he is back in contention, We are not keeping as many clean sheets as I would like.

“Defensively we have to do better at set-plays and generally be better as a unit. We were a little bit individualistic on Thursday and we didn’t stay connected and that was half the problem.

We showed a bit of character to get it back to 2-1, I thought we were looking good and then we conceded a really poor third goal. There is a lot of work still to be done with the team in terms of where we want to get to.”

Recently, Celtic have been extremely poor in defensive areas, having won one of the last six games and that showed once again on Thursday night.

Before picking up his injury against Lille, Ajer did look like he was coming on to a run of form, after a few good displays but he was unfortunate to pick up the knock.

At first, I think a lot of fans were concerned as to how long the 22-year old may be out of action for but luckily he is making a return sooner than expected and at this stage it appears we really could use him at the back.
