Celtic’s injury list has been brutal in recent weeks.
Cameron Carter-Vickers is out for the season, Callum Osmand and Alistair Johnston are facing up to five months on the sidelines, and Jota is still months away. It’s been one setback after another for the Hoops.
But finally, there’s some good news.
Kelechi Iheanacho and Marcelo Saracchi both trained at Celtic Park on Wednesday morning, taking part in the usual session held before a European away trip.
They were both photographed by SNS being put through their paces.
Their return is a major lift for Martin O’Neill, who has been scrambling for options amid a string of setbacks.
The squad departed Glasgow Airport shortly after and landed in Rotterdam around 4pm Celtic Park time, ahead of Thursday night’s Europa League meeting with Feyenoord.
The team will head straight to De Kuip, where O’Neill and a player will face the press later this evening.
With Celtic needing every bit of help they can get, the sight of Iheanacho and Saracchi back on the grass couldn’t have come at a better time.
It’s a big game for Celtic, who could really do with a win in their so far stuttering Europa League campaign.
Against a team who have lost four of its last five matches, you’d fancy your chances.
But, manager Robin van Persie, has rejected talk of a crisis at Feyenoord. He said:
“You could call it a crisis if you play really poorly and don’t show anything. That’s not the case.
“We played a fantastic first half against NEC. We should really have won that match. It’s not good enough, and this isn’t Feyenoord, but every match has its own story.
“But we have now conceded ten goals in our last four league matches, and that’s too much. And to lose the last three matches is unworthy of Feyenoord. What happened was we lost a few tackles and were sloppy.
“But we have to defend better in our next match.”
