After a wealth of speculation yesterday, Celtic invincible Stuart Armstrong has today completed his move to MLS outfit Vancouver Whitecaps.
The midfielder was a free agent after he didn’t renew his contract this summer with English Premier League outfit Southampton.
Armstrong has been without a club for the past few months and was mildly linked with a return to Celtic. In the end, though, he has decided to make the move stateside and join his old Dundee United teammate Ryan Gauld in the Whitecaps’ engine room.
With his new side currently sitting fifth in the MLS’ Western Conference, the midfielder will look to go in the door and make an instant impact.
Now 32, Armstrong enjoyed a prosperous three and a half years with Celtic where he won four Scottish league titles, two Scottish cups, and two league cups.
He made over 140 appearances for the Bhoys, scoring 28 goals and assisting 25.
Signed by Ronny Deila, Armstrong didn’t truly find his feet until Brendan Rodgers joined the club in the summer of 2016.
He thrived under the Irishman but left for England’s south coast in 2018 for roughly £7m.
Now, after a solid six years with Southampton, Armstrong will take on a new challenge in the USA.
He joins former Celts such as Lewis Morgan and Victor Wanyama across the pond as he takes the next steps in what has been a respectable career to date.
