CELTIC look to be in the hunt for Ghana winger Christian Atsu from Chelsea on a season long loan deal.

The wide man has been on Celtic’s scouting radar since before he joined Chelsea last season from Porto. He was instantly loaned out by the London side to Vitesse where he had a solid season in Eredivisie

However he has since came out and said he will not be returning to Vitesse this season but another loan move may be on the cards. A few Premiership and Dutch sides are also interested in the players services but he could be what Ronny Deila is looking for in a wide man who played in all his countries games at the World Cup.

While Deila would like to strengthen he is unlikely to be very successful until Celtic’s Champions League future is sorted, nor will the board want to shell out any serious amounts of cash until then.

This means that the new manager will have to go with what he has got and hope it’s enough to see the club through to the group stages of the competition.

The same players made it through last year which is encouraging but it wasn’t without its stressful moments as a last minute James Forrest winner spared Celtic’s blushes against Shakhtar Karagandy during last seasons playoff.

Celtic kick their campaign off against KR Reykjavík in Iceland on Tuesday night in what will be the new managers first official match. Excitement is building.
