It’s been reported Celtic are one of the clubs looking at the possibility of bringing in Aston Villa academy star, Tyreik Wright.

According to MailSport, Celtic are trailing the under 19 Ireland international with a view to bringing him in this summer.

Wright plays out on the right hand side of the field, where James Forrest usually slots into the team when fit. Bringing in a 19-year-old to learn the position and perhaps take over from James when the time is right could be great business.

Celtic have been lacking natural width all season after seeing Forrest fall to a very early long term injury. It’s hampered the way the team functions and shown we’re in need of reinforcements in that area of the pitch.

We also have Shved coming back from Mechelen but who knows where he stands with the club at this moment in time.

One thing which could go against Celtic if they want a deal for right is the misuse of two Ireland under 21 players who we brought to the club over 18 months ago.

Lee O’Connor and Jonathan Afolabi both came in with good reputations from down south, however, neither have made a first team appearance and have been put out on loan to the lower leagues on several occasions already. Stockpiling young talent when we don’t even try to use them is an issue for the club and has seen Celtic lose young players.

Could Wright be up to the challenge of coming in and hitting the ground running. The one thing in our favour would be how Jeremie Frimpong got on during his 18 months at the club. He went from nobody to being a £10m plus player now plying his trade in the Bundesliga.

Wright is currently on loan at Walsall.
