Celtic have knocked back an approach for Stephen Welsh from Italian side Udinese.

Sky Sports man Anthony Joseph has revealed Udinese approached Celtic offering to take the defender on loan with an option to buy but the club rejected the move.

Welsh has been in and out of the side this season. Mainly filling in for Carl Starfelt at centre-back. The defender always gives you a steady shift and Ange Postecoglou likes to have Stephen as an option.

The centre back only signed a new four-year deal with the club last season, so the balls is very much in Celtic’s court.

Welsh will have to prove his worth and hopefully break into the first team on a regular basis in time.

Christopher Jullien returning will push Welsh further down the pecking order. The Scottish under 21 international will at least be pleased the club have made it clear they don’t want to sell him.
