CELTIC will begin life properly without Brendan Rodgers this evening in the hostile cauldron of Tynecastle.

Neil Lennon will be in the dugout to help steer the bhoys through choppy waters ahead and as we get set to line up against The Jambos, we now know who the man in the middle will be.

There has been more attention on the referees this season and for good reason, that’s why we have been giving the referee appointments more attention before games.

Tonight Steven McLean is the SFA appointed official at Tynecastle and he will be tasked with keeping a lid on a very hot Wednesday night tie.

Going to Edinburgh under any circumstances would be a hard task but Celtic’s situation tonight makes it an extraordinary game and a massive one in the context of the season.

We need the referee to be strong, call it down the middle and for once give our players the sort of protection they should be getting. All season we’ve seen Celtic players being battered once or twice before you even see a booking.

Neil Lennon knows he’s on trial with Celtic against and must also make sure this team perform.
