Wilfried Nancy believes his Celtic players deserve to lift the League Cup on Sunday, insisting their attitude and adaptability in difficult circumstances has earned them the chance to claim silverware.
Celtic face St Mirren at Hampden in a 3.30pm kick-off, with the club looking to bounce back from two straight defeats and the new manager seeking his first win in charge.
Despite a rocky start, Nancy says he remains positive and that this final is about rewarding the players’ effort through a turbulent week.
It started with a loss against Hearts. Celtic weren’t particularly poor, with individual errors letting them down and many chances going to waste.
Thursday was always going to be tough for the Hoops, and after Celtic made the changes at halftime, they looked much better in the game, but Roma has taken their foot off the gas.

“The context is to stay positive and I see only the good things regarding the game and what we’re going to do,” as quoted by Sky Sports.
“This is not for me, this is for the club obviously, but this is more for the players because, again, I know where we are, I know where we want to go and I know that, not the gap, but I know what we need to improve on.
“So now this is more for the players because, again, they believe, not just believe, but they deserve this win regarding all the changes and so on.”
Nancy has made it clear throughout the week that he is focused on progress and learning, but understands that finals are judged on outcomes. For the manager, Sunday is less about easing pressure on himself and more about rewarding a group of players he says have bought into his approach quickly.
