After an up-and-down start to life at Celtic, Nicolas Kuhn now finds himself the subject of major transfer speculation, with former club RB Leipzig reportedly considering a £15 million move to bring him back to Germany.

The winger made his mark in a Celtic shirt during his first full season, showing moments of real quality, including a memorable goal against Leipzig in the Champions League group stages. That strike may now come back to haunt the Bundesliga side as they circle back for the player they developed in their own academy system.

While it’s clear Kuhn’s form fluctuated throughout the season, former Celtic goalkeeper Pat Bonner believes the club have handled the situation well and could be looking at a smart bit of business if Leipzig follow through on their reported interest.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming Refugee World Cup Scotland event, Bonner reflected on the player’s progress:

“If they can get £15 million, as has been reported, then that would be good business, as I think everybody is up for sale in the modern world that we live in,” he said, as quoted by STV.

“When he first came into the side, I was one of the ones that critiqued him, and I was not 100 per cent happy with the way he was playing, but fair play to him, the staff and the management. They got him playing to an extraordinary level, which was great.

“However, it is all about consistency, as he fell away and picked up a few injuries. What you are looking for in a player is to be consistent throughout the year.

“If they get that total for him, then it is a great piece of business, and I give him credit, actually, for turning it around and getting into the team at the start of last season.”

Celtic are looking to strengthen on the wing and have already made contact for a number of targets, including Sarpsborg’s Sondre Orjasaeter and Royal Antwerp’s Michel-Ange Balikwisha.

But before they could land in Glasgow, CeltsAreHere understands that the Hoops are closing in on the signing of Norwegian international Benjamin Nygren, who can play across the forward areas.
