Celtic legend Kenny Dalglish has called for Neil Lennon’s squad to up their game and show some fighting spirit after what has been a pretty dreadful campaign and last few months so far.

As quoted by the Daily Record, Dalglish called for the players to do more for the club and manager Neil Lennon, whilst also singling out both David Turnbull and Ismaila Soro for praise, being the only shining lights for the club in recent months.

“Some people were calling for change in the manager’s seat four or five months ago, but the club stood by Neil to give him as much opportunity as possible.

“Neil could call time on himself, but I don’t expect that to happen.

“Even now, he will believe he can get it all going again.

“Seeing his fighting spirit, and how much he is willing to battle for a more successful future, the players should know they need to up their game. They need to do more.

“David Turnbull and Ismaila Soro have been the shining lights in the past few weeks. There needs to be a greater contribution from others.

“The board needs to work as hard as they possibly can and make the right decisions for the benefit of the football club in the long term. There will be no short-term fix.”

This season has been a poor one for Celtic in our hunt for 10 in a row, there is no denying that.

A lot of the blame lies at the door of the management team and Neil Lennon but I do admit the players don’t escape criticism from this. A lot of our key performers have been off the boil far too much.

Despite that, they are a good squad of players and we know what they are capable of on their day. Something needs to change at this stage to turn those fortunes around.
