MARTIN O’NEILL has told Celtic fans Neil Lennon is still the man for the job and on their day, Celtic are better than their city rivals.

The man who came in and galvanised the club in 2000, bringing Neil Lennon in as a player knows Neil will hurting but he is used the to heat and pressure of what a derby defeat can bring.

It’s all about reacting, how the team gets on from here.

Rangers are getting stronger, having been very weak a couple of years ago, as they tried to make their way through the leagues. Celtic had it all their own way, and now it’s different.

” Rangers are pushing them. They were better in the League Cup final last season, and lost.” O’Neill told SunSport.

“For me that was because they had not won for a while, and Celtic were able to see it through.

“But there is a long way to go this season. Rangers have piled pressure on Celtic, and it’s up to them to keep that going, not to drift off like they did last year.”

“But overall it’s part of the territory. He has been able to deal with those things in the past, and I believe he’ll be able to deal with this now.

“Do I think Celtic will win the league? At their strongest, they are still better than Rangers, so I believe they will do it.”

Celtic have to dig themselves out of a hole and it starts on Sunday away to Aberdeen. One of the more trickier ties the SPFL calendar brings. There’s no time to wallow in self pity or pick over the bones of the shambolic performance at Celtic Park. It’s about going out and getting the job done.

We need our best players back and we need them in a system which suits them.

If we continue to spiral, there’s only one outcome.

Let’s rally behind the bhoys and hope they find that spark to get the season going properly.
