CELTIC look to be stepping up their efforts to bring in a right-back before the January deadline after reports emerged overnight they are seriously looking at Porto defender Fernando Fonseca.

Fonseca, 21, currently plays for Porto’s B side and played his football for Estoril Praia in Portugal’s second tier last season. Reports claim Juventus were seriously looking at the player in the summer before looking elsewhere.

Celtic have been chasing a right back since the summer, drawing blanks with their attempts to get several defenders in so far. Fonseca would certainly fit the mould of Celtic’s transfer mould, being a young relatively inexpensive player who can be coached and turned into a potential star.

There are less than two weeks left of the January window, and Celtic must now get a move on to acquire new targets. With Valencia coming up in under a month, time is of the essence for Brendan Rodgers.
