Celtic were linked with a plethora of players over the summer transfer window.
Some were more concretely linked with others in what was a busy period for the club.
In the end, the Hoops made eight permanent signings over the summer window, but they also missed out on several potential acquisitions.
Matuesz Bogusz of LAFC was a reported target but after talks, nothing came to fruition. Lyon’s Mahamadou Diawara was also linked towards the end of the window, along with Gustav Isaksen.
The Lazio winger was reportedly the subject of a loan with an obligation to buy bid from Celtic, but a move never surfaced.
Now, Isaksen has lifted the lid on why he elected to stay in Rome this summer.
“It would be boring to have spent a whole year getting to know everything in Lazio to go somewhere new and then have to learn it all again”, he said (tvmidtvest via Glasgow Times).
“So I told my agent that even if something exciting comes along, I would like to stay (at Lazio) with 99 percent certainty.
“I feel that I have the potential to become an important man down there.”
Celtic could have done with adding some extra wing depth in the closing stages of the window.
While the likes of Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn have been on fire at the start of the new season, Brendan Rodgers is one or two injuries away from relying on players like Yang and Luis Palma in important Champions League matches.
Signing another wide player at the end of the summer would have been perfect, but nothing surfaced.
Perhaps it is an area that will be revisited in January.
