According to reports in Bosnia, Celtic are taking a good look at FC Groningen defender Samir Memisevic as they look to ramp up their efforts to bring in a new centre back.

Memisevic, 25 is in the last year of his deal with the Dutch side but the club have an option to extend his deal for another year if they so wish.

The Bosnian is a an out and out central defender and has been playing in the Eredivisie for the past two seasons making 60 appearances for Groningen. The defender also has two caps for his country and was first called up in 2016.

It’s believed Celtic could get Samir for a relatively low fee for the 6ft defender if they do launch a bid. The last defender Celtic signed from Groningen was Virgil van Dijk and we all know how that went.

Not that this lad should be compared to the towering Dutchman.

Celtic are currently assessing their options as they look to find defensive options in order to let Dedryk Boyata leave the club.

The Belgian has been a disruptive influence and is refusing to play by claiming he is injured.
