Celtic have been linked with £1million rated American defender Mark McKenzie.

RecordSport this week claim Celtic want to sign the 21-year old with a fee of up to £1 million being touted.

McKenzie is currently at USA side Philadelphia Union where he has impressed in the league – so much so he earned his first cap in February.

He has still got a year and a half on his contract but could be up for grabs at if Celtic are looking to bring the player in. Celtic signed two USA based players a while back but loaned them straight back out to clubs in America. With no confirmation from Celtic, we can only assume they can’t play for the club due to work visa reasons. Andrew Gutman and Manny Perez don’t look like they’ll be coming in any time soon.

McKenzie has been through all the age groups for his country and won his first cap five months ago – this would make it possible for Celtic to gain a work permit for the player.

Signing the defender would make up a space for the missing centre back Jozo Simunovic as the hoops let him go at the start of July.

Also, there’s still a mystery surrounding Kristoffer Ajer’s future at the club, will he stay or go?

Celtic will be making plans in case they receive a large offer for the Norwegian – Milan have targeted him as they look to spend some of their reported £75 million Transfer kitty on the centre-back.
