According to Greek media outlets, the Hoops have been once again linked with AEK Athens goalkeeper Vasilios Barkas.

Greek website Sdna.Gr say that Neil Lennon could look to bring in the 25-year-old Greek International in either the January transfer window or during the summer.

The Greek side are looking to sell players in order to strengthen their team and it is looking likely that Barkas could be on the way out in January for a sum rumoured to be around 7-8 Million Euros according to Sdna.Gr.

However, AEK have in the past have turned down offers of six million euros for the keeper to move to Italian side Udinese. Asking instead for ten million.

While this could be a good move for the Greek, the keeper has found himself in some poor form as of late.

Barkas had been benched for three league games before going up against rivals Panathinaikos and let three in  a terrible 3-2 defeat.

This defeat pushed AEK nine points behind first place Olympiakos and seven behind Panathinaikos, much to the disappointment of their fans.

After a month away, Barkas could not have had a worse start.

If the Hoops do make the move for Barkas, who would they dispose of? It would not be viable or wise to have four keepers.

With the likes of Scott Bain, Fraser Forster and Craig Gordon in the roster. Do we, as a club, really need another keeper?

  1. Southampton reckon they are going to get 20 million for Forster, Gordon is on his way out. So that leaves the club with only two senior goalkeepers. . .. . ..
