Celtic are seemingly interested in Nigerian international goalkeeper Nathanial Nwosu, a towering presence currently playing for Tayport in the sixth tier of Scottish football.

The 19-year-old, who stands at an imposing six foot eight, has already made his senior debut for Nigeria at just 16 years old, featuring in a friendly against Costa Rica ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Nwosu’s name may be familiar to some as he was a ‘Wonderkid’ in the popular Football Manager series.

According to Tayport manager George Shields, Celtic could be among several clubs keeping tabs on the young goalkeeper’s progress.

Shields, speaking to The Herald, was full of praise for Nwosu’s attributes and believes the teenager has the potential to play at a much higher level.

“He’s six foot eight and I can see him getting a contract someplace, especially in Scotland,” Shields said. “There is some word that Celtic might want a look at him, as well, but we’ve not had confirmation of that yet.”

Nwosu is currently on trial with St Johnstone as clubs across Scotland continue to monitor his performances. Whether Celtic will firm up their interest remains to be seen, but the goalkeeper’s potential and international pedigree suggest he could be one to watch in the coming months.

It is one of those mad but wonderful Scottish football stories, no matter where he ends up. There is clearly something about him, and the Celtic scouts may be keeping a close eye on him.
