Celtic have been linked with a move for Dundee United youngster Kerr Smith, with the Tannidace side set to cash in before the end of the summer window.

As reported by Sun Sport, several English Premier League sides such as Crystal Palace, Leeds and Leicester have all joined Celtic in monitoring the 16-year old’s situation, with Southampton currently thought to be leading the race.

The St Mary’s side has reportedly had two bids knocked back for the teenager, who made his debut under former boss Micky Mellon last season.

Smith, who plays at centre-back, has also featured for United twice this season in their Premier Sports Cup victories over Elgin City and East Fife but is yet to make an appearance in their opening Premiership fixtures.

With just eight days left in the window, this deal certainly seems like it will be going down to the wire.

It is unclear at this stage where Smith may choose for his next destination, but the youngster has several choices when it comes to clubs who could be playing for in the near future.
