Reading Boss Jaap Stam has told the media he’s not surprised by the interest shown in his defender Liam Moore.

Speaking about the speculation coming out of Glasgow today that Brendan Rodgers wants Liam at Parkhead, Jaap was keen to stress he didn’t want to sell the 24-year-old.

“If he is mentioned I can understand it because he has the ability to step up.

“But if you want to build a club and go somewhere you’re not going to sell your best players.”

Celtic have been desperate to get in a centre back that’s worthy of a place in the Celtic defence. Speaking after the Rivaldo Coetzee deal fell through, while Brendan Rodgers was disappointed not to get his man he did stress he wouldn’t sign a player just for the sake of it.

The Irishman and his scouting team have left no stone unturned to find their man. They believe Liam Moore could be the guy.

The biggest stumbling block would be a fee, with Reading keen to hang onto him and the player still has a considerable amount of time left on his contract.
