Celtic striker Johnny Kenny is set to cut his loan spell short at Queens Park with him now likely to return to Ireland to join Shamrock Rovers [Irish Independent].

The 19-year-old made the switch to Scottish football in January, joining the Hoops from League of Ireland Premier Division side Sligo Rovers.

He is yet to make a competitive appearance for the Scottish champions but has featured on a few occasions for the B team in the Lowland League.

Kenny joined Queens Park in August but has failed to make any sort of impression at The Spiders having only started three out of twelve matches for Owen Coyle’s side as well as being unable to find the back of the net.

Queens Park currently sit two points off top spot in Scotland’s second tier but it looks as though they are ready to cut ties with the Irishman.

The loan spell now looks likely to end early in January with Kenny about to head back to his homeland in a deal which could possibly include an option to buy.

Kenny is keen on making the move back to Ireland after struggling to make an impact in Scottish football meaning it looks likely for him to depart Parkhead.

The youngster is much like Liam Scales in the mould of two players who likely weren’t Ange Postecoglou picks as Aberdeen look set to try and extend Scales’ current loan deal.
