Gustaf Lagerbielke has revealed that he hasn’t had much contact with Celtic since moving on loan to FC Twente in January.

The Swedish defender, who joined the Hoops in 2023 on a five-year deal, is currently impressing in the Eredivisie and Europa League with Twente. And while some might expect regular check-ins from his parent club, Lagerbielke insists he’s happy being left to focus on his football.

“I don’t hear much from Celtic, they probably have other things on their minds. Me too. I’m concentrating on Twente,” he said [twenteinsite]

It’s a similar situation to Johnny Kenny, who spent time on loan in Ireland before returning to Celtic in January, also with limited communication from the club.

Lagerbielke has forced his way into Twente’s starting XI, helping them maintain their strong league form while also putting them in pole position to progress in Europe. The Dutch side lead Bodo/Glimt 2-1 on aggregate in their Europa Conference League knockout tie, with the second leg kicking off at 17:45 UK time on TNT Sports 6 tonight. It’s a bog match for the player, and Celtic fans can tune in to watch him face a side that the Hoops know a thing or two about.

With nearly three years left on his Celtic contract, the 23-year-old’s future beyond this season remains unclear. But for now, he’s fully focused on helping Twente progress in Europe and push for a top finish in the Eredivisie.
