Celtic defender Osaze Urhoghide has insisted that he believes he still has a future with the club, despite his recent move to Belgian side Oostende, which included a buy-out release clause.

The 21-year old hasn’t spent too long in Glasgow, having recently joined from English side Sheffield Wednesday on a free in the summer.

However, since making a move to join up with Ange Postecoglou’s side, the defender has found game time hard to come by, making just one appearance in the Green and White in the final Europa League group stage match against Real Betis.

Urhoghide was then sent out on loan towards the end of the January transfer window, taking a similar route to ex Celtic defender Jack Hendry, with the deal also including a buy-out clause which would allow his new side to keep him if his performances impressed.

Speaking to Football Scotland, despite that option to buy, Urhoghide believes he still has a future in Glasgow, insisting that Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou still has him included in his plans going forward.

“The option [to buy] is there, but at the moment I’ll be going back to Celtic, and we’ll see what happens in the summer”, he said.

“Obviously, I want to do well for Celtic as well, but we’ll see what happens in the summer in terms of that clause, really.

“I’m just enjoying my football at the moment and focusing on improving. We’ll see what the future holds.”

He continued, “We (Ange) had conversations. He wanted me to go out on loan. He still has a future with me there at Celtic.

“They obviously wanted me to get games and improve. He sees that I have potential as well but felt it would be best to get games elsewhere to develop, really.”

It is interesting to hear the young defender aims are to continue as a Celtic player, with Postecoglou also seeing that as a possibility, going off of Urhoghide’s comments.

The loan move wasn’t too much of a surprise, with the Dutchman needing as much game time as possible, which wasn’t coming at Celtic. But, some were left surprised by the inclusion of the option-to-buy.

At this stage, we will need to wait until the summer to see what happens next with Urhoghide’s future. For now, his focus will be on that game time after making his debut for the club last weekend.
