CELTIC are looking to beef up their options in defence and midfield with a double swoop for Tommy Smith and Romaine Sawyers.

The pair have been on Celtic’s radar for quite some time and according to RecordSport the club are active in trying to get both deals over the line as soon as possible.

Sawyers currently plays for Brentford and could cost around £2.5m to land this summer. Smith, a right back from Huddersfield is apparently rated at £4m but Celtic aren’t willing to go to that price and believe they can negotiate down.

Celtic have added three players this summer so far after losing eleven members of the squad at the end of last season. Christopher Jullien, Boli Mbombo and Lucas Connell have all joined the bhoys.

Neil Lennon will have to go with what he has now for the first Champions League qualifier and any new faces that do come in will not be eligible until the next round.
