Celtic are looking to offload some fringe players this summer – one of them being last summer’s signing Osaze Urhoghide.

The defender came in on a free from Sheffield Wednesday but didn’t impress during the first half of the season under Ange.

A Celtic insider told CeltsAreHere back in October last year, the coaching staff were far from impressed with Osaze on the training ground and cited a huge gap between himself and a lot of the first team squad in terms of ability.

The information proved to be correct when the right-back was not only sent out on loan to Oostende in January, but Celtic happily added an option to buy for the Belgian club.

The former Sheffield Wednesday youngster has impressed in his short time at Oostende — even though Osaze has only made six league appearances.

Speaking to The Scottish Sun Oostende CEO Gauthier Ganaye claims the club are keen to keep the 21-year-old, but right now the move is too expensive for them to make permanent:

‘Urhoghide has proved to be an excellent addition, but the problem is he is still too expensive for us. But I hope we can work out a solution with Celtic, then I would be very happy because we really want to keep Osaze.’

Celtic will ultimately look to get the defender off the books but not if it costs them in the process. A deal could be struck depending on how much the Belgian’s want him.

Last summer Oostende signed Jack Hendry to a low cost permanent deal due to a first option clause and then quickly sold him for a large profit. This time Urhoghide would be signing to play in their team rather than a quick transfer turnover.
