Celtic look set to lose out on any future fee for Liam Henderson after it was revealed yesterday that Bari were going bankrupt.

The midfielder made the switch to the Serie B side in January and has played 19 times for the club but his Bari career looks dead in the water after these latest developments.

Bari will have to start again in Serie D as a new club after financial mismanagement caught up with them.

This means all players contracts will be void and they will be free to seek other opportunities without commanding any sort of transfer fee.

It’s believed Celtic had a sell-on clause in Liam’s Bari deal which would see the club pick up 20% of any future fee if the Italian’s sold him.

It looked like Celtic were set to land some sort of windfall for the player when a £2million bid from Florentine came in for his services. The bid was inexplicably declined and Bari have since hit the wall.

Liam himself is reported to want to continue his career in Italy and will seek opportunities in the country once he knows what’s fully going on with the club.

This isn’t the first time Celtic have lost out on money due to a club going bankrupt and entering liquidation – in 2012, Glasgow a Rangers went out of business owing Celtic £40k
