Scotland manager Steve Clarke is preparing to name his squad for this months international break as they look to secure a 2nd placed finish in their World Cup qualifying group.

Taking on Moldova and Denmark, several Celtic players are likely to be in contention. It is expected that Callum McGregor and David Turnbull will receive their regular call into the squad.

There have also been some calls for right-back Anthony Ralston to be part of Clarke’s squad, given his rejuvenation for Ange Postecoglou this campaign, becoming a vital member of the Celtic side.

However, one player is set for a surprise instant recall to the Scotland squad.

According to the Scotsman, Celtic winger James Forrest will add to Clarke’s attacking options, with the Scotland boss missing several of his players due to suspension in the first of the two games.

Usually, it wouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to see the experienced winger as part of his international squad.

However, given his recent injury issues and the fact he has just returned to action this past weekend, it is interesting to see Clarke turning to him.

Of course, it will be great to see Forrest getting back to first-team action with both the Hoops and Scotland as he has done over the years. But Postecoglou may be left sweating a little in the hope he doesn’t pick up yet another knock.
