Remember in May when we were all celebrating another league success, saying goodbye to Ronny Deila and his staff, but there was was also a big send off for Emilio Izaguirre.

The player done his own lap of honour out with the team, he dropped to his knees and pointed to the heavens as what he thought his final game had come to a close.

The green brigade sang his name and saluted him with a banner. It was a nice moment at Celtic Park for a player who has given so much for the club.

Fast forward now and Izzy never got the move he craved in the summer. Not content with fighting for his place that Kieran Tierney had taken, the Honduran was ready to move on.

“There was a time when I thought I would be leaving Celtic and Scotland,” THE DEFENDER ADMITTED

“Last summer, I tried to move to another club to play more football but the manager told me he needed to keep me in case anything happened to young KT.

This would prove to be the right call by Brendan Rodgers as Kieran Tierney joined the injury list at Celtic Park for around two months. With the fixture list so heavy, Emilio will be adding many games to his Celtic repertoire.

Even though Celtic could have got some sort of fee for the defender in the summer and will likely see him leave for nothing at the end of the season, the manager thought it was the right move for the club. You can’t argue with his logic.

Hopefully Izzy can play to a high standard and give KT a bit more real competition for his place.
