Celtic midfielder Daniel Kelly appears to be on his way out of the club after declining a new contract offer, a decision that could sees him excluded from the first team’s pre-season plans. The 18-year-old, whose contract expires in January, is now free to discuss terms with other clubs.
Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers commented on the situation, stating to SunSport, “There’s no impasse as Daniel, he has been offered a deal which is valued and, with the greatest respect, I have worked with young players and I know the levels of young players and where they’re at from a technical perspective and a financial perspective. Both those boys have been offered deals by the club.”
Kelly’s refusal to sign the proposed deal comes shortly after another Celtic youngster, Rocco Vata, also opted not to renew his contract. This pattern of departures has raised concerns among fans about the club’s ability to retain its emerging talents.
Despite breaking into the first team this year and scoring his first senior goal in a 7-1 thrashing of Dundee, Kelly’s future at Celtic now seems bleak. His limited playtime in the title run-in may have contributed to the midfielder’s decision.
With Kelly’s contract running out in January, the midfielder is now in a position to entertain offers from other clubs.
Rodgers confirmed Kelly’s exclusion: “I spoke with the agents and the player some months back to say, ‘listen, if we can’t tidy this up by the summer, then it’s very hard to be with the team in pre-season’. It’s as simple as that.
The allure of opportunities elsewhere and perhaps more favorable terms could see Kelly follow in Vata’s footsteps, seeking greener pastures beyond Celtic.
There is no loyalty from young players and greedy agents how say I’m looking after my client boys built like a man so he hascbeen playing against boys it will be different when up against men but good luck to him
Fuck him AND Vata.
Our club have put over a decade into their development and they have allowed their heads to be turned by parasites who only have one aim for any player and is to keep them on the move as every time they up sticks these assholes get their 10%.
Btw,you can add that cunt Doak to the list as well.
A shower of ungrateful tossers,l hope they are all doing mundane jobs in a couple of years when they have been dumped on the scrapheap, just like Morrison who’s strutting his stuff at QPR and not Bayern Munich !
Although I agree that there is little or no loyalty shown by the young kids coming through I don’t agree with using abusive language towards them. I say good luck to them if they leave but won’t say anything beyond that as they obviously did not get what Celtic are all about!
If your good enough, your old enough. (e:Spainish, Turkish internationals) If you cant get a place in Celtic’s mediocre midfield at 18yrs old, then it is time to go. No hard feelings from me.Ben Doak is an example of the greed, but also ambition. Celtic wouldn’t be building a champions league team in the near future, Liverpool might. He took his chances and invested in himself. This started way back with the “quality street kids.”
Good Luck, but, if ye dont want to play for Celtic, goodbye !
I don’t blame them look what’s ahead no chance of game time and pitiful wages just look at the senior players that have left for the same reason your futures bright but not at celtic
