Ismaila Soro has only been in the starting XI six times this season. The midfielder was hailed as one of Celtic’s shining lights from last season. This term, the player has fallen away majorly under Ange Postecoglou and was used more when this team was still in the initial rebuild stage.

Soro has also made 13 appearances from the bench in all competitions under Ange but he hasn’t impressed the manager.

The 23-year-old has the energy for Ange Ball but not the footballing intelligence to carry it out.

Soro can be rash and can regularly find himself majorly out of position. There was a running joke about when his yellow card in the game would come because his challenges could be quite robust.

Ange hasn’t seen value in keeping the player in the matchday squad. The stronger Celtic have gotten the less we’ve seen the wee man.

Ismaila has two years left on his Celtic deal, but there’s little chance he’ll still be at the club come the end of the summer window. At his age, Soro will want game time to develop as best he can. If Ange doesn’t see it, the midfielder will be told he can move on/

Ismaila was a bundle of energy in the midfield during the lockdown season and I think fans appreciated the effort he was putting in while a lot of the players looked out on their feet.

There was hope he could take over from Scott Brown at one point. Now anyone will feel silly for ever suggesting it.

  1. Never got any confidence from Soro being on the pitch. Ran around like a headless chicken, losing position and possession constantly. If he learned to calm down and pick the better pass, it would have been something to work on with him.
